Unfortunately, the arrival of tourists, even those motivated by good intentions, often generates a sense of inferiority in the local population. To them, we look like rich people who effortlessly seem to everything–and, since they are ignorant of what goes on behind this mirage, they see us as a model to imitate. This project intends to rediscover the local culture of Rangdum, to revitalize it and create materials for its promotion and dissemination. The final step of this program (and the first for a new revolution) is to prepare the young people for their interactions with the tourists who visit Rangdum and its surrounding area.
The children, aided by their teachers, will research, catalogue, translate, adapt, and examine in depth their local legends, stories, and traditions. They will collect the testimonies of the elderly, their parents and the monks (who are repositories of a great deal of ancient knowledge).
All of the gathered information will be digitized and collected into a small book, complete with drawings and photographs.
Students, teachers, parents, and monks will all be involved in this task. It will be more than just a research project–it will raise consciousness of the importance and value of their own culture.
