It was a cold morning and the clouds were caught on the tops for the mountains, we were waiting for the opening of school and thinking how to spend time with the pupils. We took the children by the hand and began to sing “ring-around-the-rosie” … We have not had to repeat this tune three times, because already the second one the children had learned the words and movements, but, incredibly, with a perfect Italian pronunciation !!!
The children carefully repeated our incomprehensible words, then, stepping aside, they tried to croon while laughing … their bright eyes staring at ours, were asking for new things to quench their healthy, simple and infinite curiosity. The curiosity that moves the world.
It was a moment seemingly insignificant but, in truth, very deep and touching: for the first time in many years, the children have considered us as “friends to play with” and not strangers to respect.
We, not only had fun, but we were impressed by the ease with wich they have learned our words so different from their language, but even more, we were surprised by the joy with which they did it
Also thanks to a simple tune, we want to strengthen our commitment “YOU CAN NOT LEAVE THOSE LITTLE HIGHLANDERS! INDEED, SO MUCH JOY OF LEARNING MUST BE REWARDED WITH A RENEWED COMMITMENT TO IMPROVE THEIR EDUCATION
